Corey Seager Injury Update: Texas Rangers Shortstop Leaves Game with Hamstring Tightness
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers may be without their star shortstop Corey Seager for a while, as he left Tuesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to left hamstring tightness. This is a significant setback for the Rangers, who have relied on Seager’s impressive offensive performance and solid defense at shortstop.
Seager’s injury occurred in the fifth inning, after he hit an opposite-field double into the left-field corner. He initially appeared to round first base cleanly, but then pulled up after a few steps and appeared to be in pain. Seager then limped to second base before being taken out of the game.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expressed his disappointment over Seager’s injury, stating that “he’s been swinging the bat so well. You hate to see it because he’s been on fire. I mean he’s just squaring up everything.”
This is not the first time Seager has experienced hamstring issues. He missed nearly a month while on the injured list with a left hamstring strain in 2019 while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Rangers will have to look for alternatives in Seager’s absence. Utility man Josh Smith took over as the pinch-runner and remained in the game to play shortstop. Bochy also mentioned that they have other options in Ezequiel Duran and Marcus Semien, who has played shortstop for the majority of his career.
Despite the setback, the Rangers were able to rally and win the game 8-5 in the 10th inning on Jonah Heim’s three-run walk-off homer. However, Seager’s injury is a significant blow to the team, especially considering the fact that he is in the second year of a $325 million, 10-year contract with the Rangers.
Seager has been an integral part of the Rangers’ success this season, hitting .359 with a 1.007 OPS. His offensive output, along with his solid defense, has helped the team to a 7-4 record so far this season.
The Rangers will have to wait and see how long Seager will be out, but his absence will undoubtedly be felt. Fans of the team will be hoping for a speedy recovery and a return to the field as soon as possible.
