For once, well in a while, it’s the good history for the Texas Rangers.

Left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney, tied an American League record with nine straight strikeouts against the Kansas City Royals. He also broke the Rangers’ record, which was held by some guy named Nolan Ryan? Whoever that is. 😉

Other pitchers with nine strikeouts in a row? Well, I’m glad you asked.

Andrew Heaney (April 10, 2023)
Pablo López (July 11, 2021), Jacob deGrom (April 17, 2021), Tyler Alexander (Aug. 2, 2020), Max Scherzer (Oct. 3, 2015), Doug Fister (Sept. 27, 2012), Aaron Harang (April 13, 2012), Ricky Nolasco (Sept. 30, 2009), Jake Peavy (April 25, 2007), Mickey Welch (Aug. 28, 1884)

Aside from Heaney, the only AL pitchers on that list are Alexander and Fister.

Corbin Burnes (Aug. 11, 2021), Aaron Nola (June 25, 2021), and Tom Seaver (April 22, 1970), all have 10 in a row.

Texas ultimately won the game, 11-2 to improve to 6-4 in the young season.

The Rangers will host the Royals Tuesday and Wednesday at home, to finish the series. They will have a three-game series against the defending World Champions, Houston Astros, in Houston this weekend.
