Our Texas Rangers won the series against their division rivals, the Los Angeles Angels, taking two of three games. They should have swept the series as they had a 4-1 lead going into the 9th inning of the first game, but their closer Will Smith struggled, and the Angels managed to tie the game before winning in the 10th inning.
The Rangers’ offense has been strong this season, scoring double-digit runs in 26% of their games and averaging 6.7 runs per game, leading baseball. However, their bullpen has struggled, leading to a few missed opportunities for wins.
In the second game of the series, Nathan Eovaldi pitched a great game, handing out eight strikeouts and no runs to the Angels, securing a win for the Rangers. Adolis Garcia, Leody Taveras, and Ezekiel Duran were the offensive stars of the series, with Taveras having a breakout game on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a double, four RBI, two runs, and a steal. Overall, Taveras went 7-for-13 with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI in the series.
The Rangers’ offense has been strong, but their bullpen needs to improve if they want to continue to win and stay ahead in the AL West division.
