On Monday night, our Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-1 putting an end to Logan Gilbert’s bid for a perfect game with a leadoff single by Marcus Semien in the seventh inning. Jon Gray pitched seven innings, giving up four hits, striking out eight, and walking none. Ty France homered in the first inning off Gray, but the Mariners missed an opportunity to score in the fifth when Gray got Julio Rodríguez to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. The Rangers rallied in the seventh inning, with Semien scoring the tying run on Josh Jung’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly, followed by Jonah Heim’s RBI single that chased Gilbert from the game. Texas relievers Brock Burke and Jonathan Hernández kept the Mariners hitless before Will Smith struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save.
